Product Description OLD DOGS - DVD
Amazon.com Who says you can't teach Old Dogs new tricks? Robin Williams and John Travolta are the old, single "dogs" in question, reveling in great chemistry as lifelong pals who've together grown a successful marketing empire--but who have somehow managed to avoid ever really growing up. The cast, featuring Travolta's real wife, Kelly Preston (who, with costar Rita Wilson, reveals just how fine a comedian she is, and how the screen really sparkles when she's on it), and his real-life daughter Ella Bleu, is top-notch. Other great performances include Bernie Mac, a sultry Lori Loughlin, Matt Dillon, and a dynamite Seth Green as a mini-mogul in training. The plot revolves around the Old Dogs' suddenly needing to care for twin 7-year-olds (the heretofore unknown children of Williams's character, Dan) and finding that they learn as much from the kids as vice versa. Moans Dan to Travolta's Charlie, after awkwardly tucking in the kids for the night at Charlie's bachelor pad, "I just shook hands goodnight with my daughter." Old Dogs is a fun family film that's appropriate for ages 8 and up, with enough jokes and great timing to please grownups too. --A.T. Hurley

Two Stars in One Terrible Comedy September 6, 2010 Tsuyoshi (Kyoto, Japan) Let me first tell you that I like John Travolta and Robin Williams. I've seen most of their films (including "Popeye" and "Staying Alive"), and Disney's new comedy "Old Dogs" also includes Kelly Preston, Ella Bleu Travolta (daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston), Matt Dillon, Seth Green, Bernie Mac (his last film), Lori Loughlin, Ann-Margret, Rita Wilson, and uncredited Luis Guzman, Dax Shepard and Justin Long.
OK, pretty impressive, so I saw the film. Sorry, but "Old Dogs" is just terrible. It is as if they had made another sequel of "Daddy Day Care" when we already have (a very bad) one.
Charlie (Travolta) and Dan (Williams) are business partners and friends. They are co-owners of the sports marketing company and are about to close a profitable deal with a Japanese company when Vicky (Preston) shows up with two 7-year-old children Zach (Conner Rayburn) and Emily (Ella Bleu Travolta). Vicky and Dan were married for a very short time seven years before, and she asks him to take care of the kids for her for two weeks.
But the film's incoherent story is just as an excuse for jokes to be strung together. This is not a bad thing as long as jokes are funny. The jokes of "Old Dogs" are all tired, clichéd ones, for example, John Travolta and his facial paralysis; Rita Wilson getting her hands slammed (with The Four Seasons hit song "Big Girls Don't Cry"); Seth Green cuddled by a gorilla; and Robin Williams as "Oompa Loompa." The last one really made me sad.
"Old Dogs" is not as bad as "Battlefield Earth" (which I take as a comedy); perhaps slightly better than "License to Wed." Either way, simply terrible.
old dogs September 5, 2010 Raymond Fandl awesome move. this movie a lot like wild hogs in many ways. travolta and williams are both amazing actors and porive it again with there performances. they play partners who are successfull business men who of course are older people. robin williams, after meeting a woman, later finds out the he now has two kids thet are going to get in the way of there lifestyle and new business adventure in japan. this movie provides lots of laughs for all ages with everything that hapens in there new lives as parents. i highly recomend this movie. it also provides a great cast.
OLD STYLE COMEDY FUN August 29, 2010 Michael Ledo (Windsor, SC United States)
This is a movie with the feel of an old fashion Disney movie, but designed for the modern expanded definition of family. Seven years ago Robin Williams got divorced. His buddy, John Travolta takes him to South Beach where Williams meets a girl, gets drunk, gets married, then has it annulled. However Williams still has feelings for his one night wife and after 7 years writes her a letter. They meet and he finds out he is the father of her two children. Through a series of circumstances, Williams agrees to watch his estranged kids for 2 weeks. Travolta aids Williams as they attempt to play dad with disasterous results. The jokes are a bit trite and much of the humor is slap stick. Most adults will find something to enjoy in the film while they watch it with their kids. The theme of the movie is that friends, love, and family are the most important things in life and together we can work through anything.
Great for a Laugh August 23, 2010 BEVERLY A. CARROLL (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD arrived in perfect condition and rather a fast delivery. I would always buy from this seller in the future. The movie is nothing buy laughs. Great cast. Perfect family movie that will make all just laugh so much. Good to buy with this seller and also about the lowest price on the market.
Disappointing August 23, 2010 MommaMia (NY) This movie, although chock full of great talent, was a sad misfire. The parts of the movie that made me laugh were few and far between, however, when I did laugh, I just couldn't stop! There were maybe 3 scenes that were just fantastic. I can't imagine what happened to the rest of the movie!
I thought the family dynamics a bit hard to explain to little ones. I thought the mother being incarcerated for 2 weeks was difficult as well. Robin Williams has never disappointed me so I thought I was in for some fun, despite the difficult family layout, however, it wasn't worth the 10 minute explanation I had to go through.
Disney should stick to animated movies and leave the divorce, single guy out on the town and other such topics for the sitcoms and drama shows on reality television.
